Water softeners should be an integral part of your espresso machine. The mineral content of water can build up limescale inside your favorite espresso machine, leading to boiler failure. Most espresso machine manufacturers cancel their limited warranties, if their machine is not installed with a water softener and recharged accordingly. Rancilio Water Softener is specially made to soften or de-mineralize the hardness of your water. It will help prevent scale buildup in your espresso machine boiler.
This salt rechargeable water softener by Rancilio fits inside water tank and over the intake hose. It eliminates the need for tiresome and expensive descaling. If you recharge the water softener with ordinary table salt, it is going to last long.
It’s recommended to recharge this water softener at least once a month. To recharge, there are some simple steps to follow:
• Your espresso machine should be off and cold before following these steps.
• Prepare the solution: Mix 3 teaspoons of fine salt in a glass of water.
• Drain the water tank.
• Remove the water softener from the rubber tube and turn it over.
• Pour the solution through the filter and resin. It will flow freely.
• Wait for about 5 minutes, then run tap water through it to rinse it. When the water coming out of the softener is no longer salty, the resins are regenerated. Now the filter is ready for use.
• Put the softener back on the tube and lay it horizontally in the bottom of the tank.
• The machine is now ready to be turned on and used again.
Compatibility: Rancilio Water Softener is compatible with Rancilio Silvia, Epoca ST1 or any other espresso machine that has a water tank & draws the water out of that tank with a "drop-in" hose.

The purpose of this adapter and digital thermometer is to facilitate the measurement of brew water temperature about 1.25" away from the puck during a real brew cycle. In addition, and EQUALLY IMPORTANT, it measures the temperature of the group head under idle conditions. It requires no drilling, tapping, soldering, brazing, cutting, Teflon tape, or epoxy but can ONLY be installed in E61 group-heads that are fully exposed. The difference between the temperature that you will be measuring using this adapter and measured temperature of the water hitting the puck is approximately 3-5 degrees F but may vary with different machines and different brew conditions and most certainly, varies over the course of a typical 23-27 second shot.
The new style thermometer has switches for both the on/off function and temperature scales (degrees F/degrees C).
